Friends raise over £750 with Swim22 for Diabetes UK
This afternoon I found myself in High Wycombe doing a photoshoot with a difference.
My sister-in-law, Frances, and her friend Judith had contacted me to ask whether I would help them take a few promotional shots for a swimming challenge they were taking part in – Swim22 for Diabetes UK. Of course I said yes, but it wasn’t until I looked into what they were doing that truely understood how challenging the task was.
Here is their story;
Judith and I swim together twice a week although we both swim at other times too. Our challenge, to raise money for Diabetes UK, is to swim 22 miles (the equivalent of the English Channel) but in the comfort of an indoor pool and within a 12 week period.
Diabetes UK is the leading UK charity that cares for, connects with and campaigns on behalf of all people affected by and at risk of diabetes. I’ve been Diabetic 46 years and manage the condition well. My diabetes is treated with insulin; injected daily, originally with a glass syringe and a re-usable needle. I am now connected to an insulin pump 24/7 and my diabetic control is a whole lot easier to manage. The pump is waterproof, so I can just jump in the swimming pool wearing it and get on with life.
Judith and I (The Gossip Girls) are getting our goggles on and swimming at Handy Cross Sports Centre, High Wycombe. Our challenge starts on 22 February and we are both looking to complete our 1416 lengths within 12 weeks. (thats 118 lengths a week!)
